Chamber of Commerce Endorses Rep. Claeys for Re-Election to House
The Kansas Chamber of Commerce today endorsed Rep. J.R. Claeys (R-Salina) for re-election to the Kansas House of Representatives. Claeys is a long-time advocate for small businesses, working for the National Small Business Association and the U.S. Small Business Administration before being elected as Salina's Representative, serving west Salina and northwest Saline County.
“J.R. is committed to bringing jobs to Salina and growing the Kansas economy,” said Mike O'Neal, Kansas Chamber of Commerce president. “His work on the BEST Act and expanding the PEAK program have made real impact on job creation in Kansas."
Claeys carried the Business Entity Standard Treatment (BEST) Act on the House floor last session, encouraging passage of a law that will make filing business paperwork faster and easier with the Secretary of State's office. He also worked on the expansion of the Promoting Employment Across Kansas (PEAK) program, which incentivizes job creation in Kansas. Saline County is third in the state for businesses using the program to grow jobs.
The 2014 legislative session marked a number of key victories for the Kansas Chamber and the Kansas business community, but progress can still be made to strengthen the pro- growth majority in the Kansas House. The Chamber PAC supports strong candidates who believe in free market principles, a competitive tax climate and limited government.
"The Chamber PAC is committed to supporting hard-working candidates who will fight to make Kansas the best state in the nation to do business," said Chamber PAC Chairman Justin Hill.
The uncompromising mission of the Chamber PAC is to support those who stand for free market principles, pro-growth tax policies and limited government. The legislators and candidates who have received Chamber PAC support share this mission.
"I'm honored by the endorsement from the Chamber of Commerce and their recognition of my committment to growing small businesses in Kansas," said Claeys. "We need policies in our state that encourage growth and job creation from our small businesses."
Claeys is a fifth-generation Kansan, born and raised in Salina. He is a graduate of Salina Catholic Schools and Kansas State University.
Claeys first won election to the Kansas House of Representatives in 2012. He serves on the Federal & State Affairs Committee, the Commerce, Labor & Economic Development Committee and the powerful House Taxation Committee.
